Dr. Abdulwahab S. AlGahtani
Associate Professor of Management
Biography:
Dr. Abdulwahab S. AlGahtani is currently with Al Yamamah University in Al-Khobar as an associate professor of Management in the College of Business in the Management and Marketing Department since August 2024. He also worked as an associate professor from June 2008 to August, 2024 at the College of Business (Formerly the College of Industrial Management) in the Management and Marketing Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). Dr. Abdulwahab joined KFUPM in early January 2002 as an assistant professor in the College of Business until June 2008 then got promoted to associate professor rank. He was with King Faisal University (KFU) from 1986 until January 15, 2002 as an assistant professor in the College of Business (Formerly the college of Management Sciences and Planning). Dr. Abdulwahab requested the transfer of his service to King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and was accepted immediately in late December 2001. Dr. Abdulwahab received a scholarship from King Faisal University to pursue the MBA with the concentration in marketing management from California State University in San Bernardino (CSUSB) in 1986 and the doctoral degree with the major in strategic management and a minor in HRM from the University of North Texas (UNT) in August 1990. Dr. AlGahtani received his Bachelor of science in business administration with the concentration in marketing from the University of La Verne in California in December 1985.
Dr. AlGahtani worked at the customs department in Al- Khafji as an inspector after he completed high school and worked from 1977 until 1980. He also joined the faculty as a teaching associate in the management department at the University of North Texas (UNT) from 1992 until 1995 during pursuit of the doctoral degree. Also, Dr. AlGahtani accomplished many research projects during his study with a team of students from CSUSB during the MBA program. The projects include the development of real estate strategy for Aware Development in Riverside, California and the marketing of roads sand and gravel. Also, the team developed Bell Helicopter landing base. The research projects were completed in 1987. Dr. Abdulwahab participated in 1991 with a team of doctoral students from the University of North Texas to resolve a problem related to collective bargaining between Honeywell International, Dallas Plant and its employees in Mexico Plant due to pay discrimination. The issue was resolved and employees in Mexico plant refrained from the strike. Dr. Abdulwahab teamed up with colleagues from the business college from KFUPM to establish the National Center of World Trade Organization (Saudi WTO Center) in Riyadh back in 2005-2006. The center was funded by the Council of Trade Chambers in Riyadh. Also, Dr. Abdulwahab headed a team of researched from KFUPM, College of business to investigate the impact of the global financial and economic crisis in 2008 on Saudi private sector businesses in recruitment, dismissal and salaries. The study was funded by Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF).
Dr. Abdulwahab conducted many training workshops in developing human resources. The training workshops included skills, modern marketing and the development of top management and employees. Also, strategic planning as a discipline and practice was included in the training. Dr. Abdulwahab contributed to the development of universities educational programs such the marketing program at King Faisal University in 2000. Also, Dr. Abdulwahab and another colleague contributed to the development of the diploma studies and community service program. Dr. Abdulwahab designed and translated textbooks in management and marketing. He also designed the course of “Concepts in English” to help students to understand management and marketing terminologies at King Faisal University in 2000.
Dr. Abdulwahab was recognized, appreciated and rewarded by the ambassador of Saudi Arabia in Washington D.C for his excellent management of both the Saudi student club and the sons and daughters’ school elementary school at North Texas. He also received several recognitions from the Saudi Educational Mission in Washington, D.C on managing the club and school. The mayor of Denton city recognized Dr. Abdulwahab for his activities to introduce Saudi Arabia’s culture and economy to the community. The University of North Texas recognized Dr. Abdulwahab for his contribution during the international day at the university and awarded several recognition certificates for the Saudi students’ club activities at UNT.
Dr. Abdulwahab received a scholarship from the Fulbright to conduct a study on Saudi Arabia in 1993. The Fulbright scholarship was based my achievement in the PhD program. It was not consistent with my scholarship due to the fact that it would delay my graduation from the doctoral program. He received recognitions from many chambers of commerce in the Saudi Arabia for the contribution to social responsibility activities across the Kingdom. He contributed to research and social responsibility is recognized by many institutions in and outside Saudi Arabia in the last two decades. He reviewed papers for the Academy of Management in Seattle, Washington State conference in 2003 and New Orleans conference, Louisiana in 2004. Dr. Abdulwahab headed sessions and tracks in international conferences and forums before and after the achievement of the doctorate. Dr. Abdulwahab research interests include Saudization, corporate social responsibility, ethics, strategic planning, productivity, motivation, leadership, restructuring, organizational development, organizational culture, organization change, organizational behavior issues, dumbing, merger, acquisition and many more related topics.
Globally, Dr. Abdulwahab is a member of several associations such as the board of the Journal of Promotion Management, American Society for Competitiveness (ASC) and International Academy of Business Discipline (IABD). Dr. Abdulwahab headed North Africa and Middle East track in the International Academy of Business Discipline conference in the US (2001-2003). Locally, Dr. Abdulwahab and other three friends establish the Saudi Cancer Society (SCS) in the Eastern Province in 2003. Now. the SCS is active since the year of its establishment.
Dr. Abdulwahab contributes on a weekly base by writing on issues for knowledge and awareness on important issues to the public. He wrote more than 2500 newspaper articles in different Saudi and other GCC newspapers. He has a weekly column in Alyaum newspaper. He had a monthly article in Aleqtisad magazine in the chamber of commerce in Eastern province. He appears on some Saudi and GCC TV channels for interviews on business, management, economic and social issues. He participates in Riyadh, AlJazirah, Aleqtisadiah, Okadh, Alwatan, Almadinah, Makkah electronic and Albayan (UAE). Dr. Abdulwahab reviewed and refereed research papers professionally for faculty promotion from many different public and private Saudi universities. Finally, Dr. Abdulwahab is a member of the consulting committee of the capital market in Riyadh since October 2023.
